The front page ads under the heading 'You may also like...' look very much like more Newsbiscuit stories, with stupid pictures and dumb headlines. They even read like Newsbiscuit stories. While they may bring in a bit of revenue, I can't help feeling they distract and confuse the visitor. Suggestions for a more suitable way to raise a bit of cash instead of these crappy ads?

Charge members for submitting posts - especially tickers? Earn enough stars or get it published, and you get your money back.

charge members for using their posts - special "sponsored stories" section? or just headline it "you may also like this shite, but probably not"

Nah. "You probably wouldn't like any of this shite, but tough - get over it. We need the money." A new honesty in advertising.

I like that idea Titus.
"You probably won't like any of this shite but they're paying us to put it here"

Maybe "Other tedious bollocks which we've been paid to post links to"?
Such hilarious, blatant honesty might even find favour with the advertisers themselves!

Can't we just whore out Titus? Someone'll pay for anything on the internet...

I like Titus' idea - pay for tickers and only get your money back if posted. Titus would keep the site going on his own.

Good. Well that's all sorted then.

In the meantime I think these headlines are ripe to be turned into subs. Here's a starter
"Insurance companies hate this trick: lie through your teeth on your claim form"

Insurance Companies hate this trick:
Torch your house and garage, with car, pets, spouse and all your worldly belongings in it, except a file of policies and a surprisingly comprehensive set of receipts in an asbestos envelope. The day before your holiday starts. Breathe a bit of the smoke in and have a year off work with stress.Posted 5 years ago # -
Is bypassing the meter two days a month the way to save £160 off your utility bill?

Retailers hate this! shoplifting, arson, and stealing all their stock at the point of a sawn-off shotgun. Also VAT, forms, late deliveries, children and young people, old people, everybody, the world.

Bump. 'Specially cos with the new site layout these ads look even shittier than before - if that's possible.
A spoof website with ads that are more ridiculous than the site itself? How does that work?

"Clickbait advertisers hate this trick: not clicking"
Also (but a bit stale now)
"Safe deposit companies hate this trick: drill through their walls during a bank holiday" - or perhaps "... get a bunch of bored pensioners to drill through their walls during a bank holiday"
