A much needed boost to BBC moral was delivered today by the Prime Minister. “We are delighted that the BBC is at last helping this government to reduce costs. Now that the “Most Popular” column of stories has been clearly labelled with the large numbers 1 to 10 alongside, we will be able to slash the budget for teaching 2-year olds the concept of number series.”
“Until now, it hasn’t been at all obvious which item was more popular. Who would of thought that in a list of ten items the one at the top was number 1, the one at the bottom was number 10, and the ones in between were numbers 2 to 9, or – and here is the clever bit - 9 to 2 if you read from the bottom up. By placing massive numbers alongside the list the BBC has at a stroke both explained to people that, for example, the fourth item on the list is more popular than the fifth item on the list, and it has also reduced the amount of space available on its front page for negative news stories about the Big Society.”
“Well done, the BBC!”
