He has something of an Early '80s pop star about him, and not in a good way. I think they may have created him to bring about the revival of two piece synth pop acts. It's just a short step from there to Kajagoogoo.

I agree, Tears for Fears were rubbish.
Not to an angsty 19-year old in 1983 they weren't.
The clues are all there in the lyrics
"Everybody wants to rule the world" and "I don't want your freedom".
Ridgley left wham and Tears for Fears droped out of the charts so as to spend their loot pursuing a plan to grow their own puppet politician by mingling their seed.
