ITV newsreaders will be allowed to blurt out important sports results without warning at any time of day, it's been announced. Previously restricted to giving out football scores without notice prior to the BBC's flagship 'Match of the Day' programme, the TV journalists will be permitted to wander in to make impromptu sporting announcements during any programme on the 24-hour schedule.
As long as the words "And in sport..." are uttered first, news anchormen and women will be able to give out full-time and half-time scores, describe sending-offs and substitutions, and those with a modicum of acting skills will be encouraged to mime goal-scorer celebrations and managers' reactions, to the limit of their news-reading ability.
"The change could be brought in before the end of the Premier League season, which Chelsea will win by 7 points, with Manchester United finishing strongly to take a commendable second place after a shaky start to the season," said a newsreader earlier today.
