A Walsall man took his own life because the twitter community 'showed a shocking inhuman indifference' to a tweet he posted, a coroner has decided.
After Percy Wardle (45) tweeted his tweet he waited for almost an hour for someone to retweet his tweet, favourite it, or mention him in a tweet.
'But,' said coroner Christine Fawcett, 'the deceased was met by an ocean of silence with not even a glimmer of a tweeted response. In the circumstances it was inevitable that Mr Wardle would decide that life wasn't worth living.'
'Mr Wardle's tweet,' Mrs Fawcett added,'was reasonably witty and was deserving of a response.'
The coroner's verdict, which was delivered in 140 characters as a tribute to Mr Wardle, said that a second 'goodbye' tweet Wardle posted just before he jumped to his death from a sixth-floor window, went viral and was retweeted one million times.
