And a slightly less subtle tribute:

i trust that everyone is well, this spring evening. here, the daffs are out and the dawn chorus is in full voice. (well, it is in the early hours, not right at this moment).

thanks for that, mr crow. i am a great fan of ian drury.

Mr.Crow
Spooky
Not only did I see Peter Green last month, but The Blockheads this month.
Who's next?Posted 3 years ago # -
Edward,
I'll leave out the links for now - but should I ever go a-wooing a lady again I probably won't repeat Chris Wood's line: 'Your eyes are as bright as herrings flashing in the net.'Posted 3 years ago # -
hello mr crow. how are things with you tonight?
Posted 3 years ago # -
This thread is spinning out nicely. How were Fairport Mr Hack?
Posted 3 years ago # -
Try the chat-up line from Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak Mr Crow: "Hey you! good looking female, come here." I hope you have more success with it than I did.
I always found strange the line "Tonight there's going to be jailbreak, somewhere in the town" most people might have a wild guess at it being at the jail.Posted 3 years ago # -
I'm very impressed with all the old music I see and hear on this forum. You may care to watch this one - have you ever seen unsynchronised syncopation like this. They just don't make these sort of films anymore.
And check out the offbeat hand clapping and the jive champions.
Does anyone admit to seeing this in the cinema?

just tidying up in here...
Posted 3 years ago # -
Catch up: Flashing herrings is probably not the greatest compliment you could pay a lady but what a song-what a performer
Fairport were fantastic Mr.S..real troupers, good night had by all (packed)
Loved the Little Richard clip- wish I could move as well as that big fellah can
Plucky - watch that shoulder, leave the tidying up to the NB maids, they've only gone out the back for a draw
Saw Ian Dury supporting ShaNaNa in 1975 - he was Kilburn back then
Ram's right - most jailbreaks take place in or around jails
One more YouTube moment which proves the protest song is very much alive and well
A Haymaker from Show of Hands

hi mr hack,
good to see you. i am sure you can jive like the man in the clip. little richard is still going strong, i think. i do like to try to keep the room a bit tidy as you get some odd sorts in here. and ram, bless him, is not the neatest of people.Posted 3 years ago # -
I'll have to catch them when they come our way Mr H. Excellent stuff.
Posted 3 years ago # -
that Ram had something stuck to the bottom of his walking pole when he came in last night
am enjoying Morris On - must have one of the first 'swear words' to ever make it onto vinyl - very risque back then
Richard Thompson could drag his fingernails down a blackboard and it would sound goodPosted 3 years ago # -
I was trying to pay 1952 Vincent Black Lighting this afternoon, but can't get my head around his hybrid picking ie flat pick and fingerpicking at the same time.
Morris On's good in-car music I find.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Thompson's a great guitarist- "It's all right ma, it's only witchcraft" is a lovely track.
Also- can I recomment John Renbourne's first two LP's? He can't sing for toffee, but the instrumentals are lovely.
(Also, I'm just here visiting an elderly relative)
Posted 3 years ago # -
i don't know most of these people. perhaps i am older and more stupid than i thought. probly, sniff.
Posted 3 years ago # -
John Renbourn's still gigging and still amazing. Bert Jansch did some amazing stuff too, eg Anji, Needle of Death, Blues Run the Game etc.
Don't worry Plucky, you move in more ethereal musical circles.
Posted 3 years ago # -
'ethereal' is a lovely word, Scroat! I hope all the Scroats are well.
Posted 3 years ago # -
ethereal musical circles
Weren't they a prog rock band?
Posted 3 years ago # -
They're fine thanks Plucky, but can be a little trying at times. Ho hum.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Too many posts for me to respond at the moment. But thanks all for your comments. Great stuff. Get back to you later. And at least it makes a change from talking about Rikkor's bottom.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Rikkor's bottom is yesterday's news. Today, we're talking about Mr Hack's bottom (in the GAME: Trufax! thread).
I see they've built another extension here in Oldbiscuit. In fact, the whole forum is like a universe, ever-expanding into infinity...

They're called trekking poles, Hacky. A chap I sometimes called Geronimo made the same mistake as you. But enough of this folksey sort of music (crap) lets have the real thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrezpUWIY98 In spite of being on a crap looking stage and being assaulted by an idiot from the audience waving a stick at them, the band do a reasonable job with this.
Sorry about my pic, by the way, I just couldn't bear that colour I'd be allocated any longerPosted 3 years ago # -
I think this guy will really go places - and what a mover!
Posted 3 years ago # -
just clearing away scroaty's beer bottles. don't mind me...
Posted 3 years ago # -
Thanks you Plucky. I dare say I'll be making more mess before the day is out. What with it being Friday and all.
This area they have set aside for us more mature members is quite pleasing. Nice view of the gardens too.
How long have I been here now..?
Posted 3 years ago # -
this area is nice enough, scroaty, but its looking a bit dated. i am not sure about all this pine, formica and magnolia. are you any good at decorating or do we let ram do his worst?
Posted 3 years ago # -
Hey I'm a dab hand with a roller, me.
