The BBC has announced that there will be a homecoming parade complete with open-top bus when its commentary squad arrives back home triumphant from the World Cup in South Africa.
Thousands of fans are expected at Heathrow airport on Tuesday where the heroes are expected to land at around lunchtime. They will then be transported back to London past television centre on a specially commissioned London bus provided by Mayor Boris Johnson.
The world cup stars, including Gary Lineker, Alan Hansen, David Pleat, John Motson, Chris Waddle and quite possibly even Mark Lawrenson, will be driven around the city of Westminster watched by hundreds of thousands of supporters and well wishers. They will then be taken to 10 Downing Street to receive the congratulations of the Prime Minister before arriving for tea with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
Mr Cameron said, "It is the right thing to do. These men have shown strength in difficult situations and have come out on top. They are world beaters. They are true heroes and we should all come together as a coalition and recognise their achievements."
The Queen's private secretary Sir Oliver Barnstrangler said Her Majesty had shed a private tear of joy after the team's performance in the final. She is quoted as saying "It makes one proud to be British."
Losing finalists, ITV, and their captain Adrian Chiles are said to be devastated at their defeat. "It was just a matter of competing against a more experienced, more talented side," he admitted, bitterly. Asked by our reporter whether ITV had just tried to buy success, Chiles responded "No comment."
The Government is expected to announce a national holiday on Tuesday so that the whole country can celebrate this magnificent achievement as one.
