How about when we next post something/anything we ALL give ourselves FIVE stars
This will at least give the impresssion that
A: all our subs are absolutely hilarious
or
B: we are all extremely popular
or
C: it will encourage people to at least mark them down rather than simply ignore them
or
D: might even encourage people to acually read them
is it getting out of hand?

I love it when a new sub appears and instantly has 5 stars... You're rumbled, pal, I think.
Like all sensible people, I wait several hours before awarding myself 5 stars, and then only because I'm worth it. :-)

Ah the good old days. You may be surprised who got pissed off when a] nobody voted or b]a sub was voted down,although didn't seem to happen a couple of years ago. Ladies and gents in them days.People you'd like to have a drink with..still bastards though.

h2z, think it works like this.
If I see a piece I like, I generally dish out 5 stars. If I don't like it, I tend just not to vote for it at all. Seems churlish somehow to give intermediate marks.
On rare occasions, when I find a piece offensive or plagiarised, I award 1 point, 'cos I'm like that.

Hey, great to see a thread about marking make a come-back.
I'm with Stan on marking others: I only award points if it's FP standard (and, just occasionally, if it really irks). And I don't award myself any points. But I might take up Rick's devious design and give myself five stars after a respectable passage of time.

I rather liked the 1 fairy, who periodically went through adding 1 point which reduced the average. I have since formed an educated theory as to precisely which of you this was. Haven't seen them round for a couple of days, actually. Outbursts of One Fairyiness were always accompanied by unformatted, maudlin maunderings.
I wasn't above dishing it out, either, to One Fairy suspects.

I think it's better to get no stars than one star. People only ever give one star if it is a pretty ropey sub. No stars often means your sub was made during a busy spell, and slipped through the net. One star means they thought it was poor enough to log in and say it was poor.
Try bumping it later on, but not too obviously. Maybe add a follow-up line, or correct a grammatical error...
...if it still doesn't grab people's attention, then slink off and write another one...

Some stars are better than none, at least someone felt enough to vote.
Voting 5 for oneself is so sad though. At least have the confidence in what you have written to rise or fall whatever. Otherwise, why bother? But do email lots of friends with a picture of a puppy and tell them you will drown it if they don't vote for you. Even better if you have pictures of them in a compromising position with the puppy.
