A spokesman for Northumbria police's popular book group has today appealed to the public for any assistance they can give in their ongoing hunt for the children's book character known as Wally.
'We've been looking for him everywhere in the book since we finished Where's Spot? back in January' he admitted, 'but he keeps evading us. We've got a gut feeling he's in the book somewhere, but we just can't track him down.' The group is thought to have found a number of Wally's known associates, Wizard Whitebeard, Wanda and a dog named Woof, but they have been unable to shed any light on Wally's whereabouts.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Wally, described as average build and last seen wearing a red and white stripey top and hat and black-rimmed glasses, is advised not to attempt to approach him but to report it to Northumbria police or the children's section of their local library immediately.
