Following the conformation that the Duchess of Cambridge is pregnant, the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland which runs Edinburgh Zoo has confirmed that it has made enquiries about housing the Duchess of Cambridge (also known as "Kate") and her husband the Duke of Cambridge (also known as "William") in the enclosures currently occupied by Giant Pandas "Tian Tian" (also known as "Sweetie") and Yang Guang (also known as "Sunshine"). Since the reported failure of Tian Tian's pregnancy the R.Z.S.S. has been counting the costs of another year without panda cubs and realise that this could provide the solution to these financial problems.
Director of Pandas at Edinburgh Zoo, Iain Valentine (also known as "Iain") explained that the Royal family are an endangered species and, as such, require careful conservation and captive breeding programmes.
"It appears that royalty are actually easier to breed in captivity than pandas but their off-spring create just as much interest in the media" explained Mr Valentine, "As a business plan it makes perfect sense to bring Her Royal Majesty and her breeding partner to our collection."
Suggestions in the press that William would be encouraged to do hand-stands and urinate into Kate's enclosure have been dismissed by the zoo's operators. However they would not rule out the possibility that the Red Panda enclosure at the Highland Wildlife Park - which they also operate - would be adapted for Prince Harry who is reported to be more adept at such manoeuvres.
