In the wake of the tragic passing of Robin Williams, thousands of under-20s are left reeling at the news that he actually played Mrs Doubtfire in the 1993 film.
"Mrs Doubtfire was a man? Dude the 90s are confusing. Why isn't it called Mr Doubtfire?" tweeted one Generation Z-er. Another expressed her incredulity: "He played that ugly Scottish woman? I thought he just played the dad!" Asked if they had watched the whole film (which clearly shows Robin Williams in make-up) most kids said they had only skimmed through the trailer online or watched a mash-up of the best bits of Mrs Doubtfire/The Avengers. One Facebook user posted: "First I find out Titanic wasn’t just a film. Now Mrs Doubtfire isn’t even a woman! Why do our parents keep lying to us?"
When Scottish youths were asked who played the drag nanny, answers ranged from "some bird" to "yer maw" to "that tasty trannie up the road".
