Edinburgh husband and wife Lucy and James Buchannan and their 2 children Grace and Marcus are ready to face up to the challenge of a visit to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games. The family, from the city’s well-to-do Morningside area, have been attempting to acclimatise for several months now and have been watching ‘River City’ by way of preparation, ‘at first it was like a foreign language’ says James ‘ but eventually something clicked and we’ve been able to watch without subtitles for several weeks now’.
The family are attending the Rugby 7s at Ibrox Stadium this weekend and admit to being nervous ‘we are looking forward to the rugger’ says 10-year old Marcus ‘but mummy and daddy have insisted that we are all roped together until we are safely inside the stadium and we’re not to talk to anyone or accept any Buckfast or cigarettes from the Glasgow children’.
‘Isn’t sport marvellous?’ says Lucy ‘if people like us and the lower orders can be brought together then anything is possible. Who knows, if we survive ok we may make it a regular thing, the doctor says our jabs are good for at least 12 months’.
