Yes, I laughed at that part of The News Quiz, on Friday.
The trendy-leftie lot have never forgiven the Lib-Dems for going into coalition with the 'wrong' lot. Apparently coalition is a Good Thing, and compromising your unique party priciples is perfectly acceptable, even honourable, provided you are joining a left-of-centre party. But coalition is apparently a disusting betrayal of all your principles, of everything that is good and decent, if your partner in government happens, instead, to be a right-of-centre party.
This arrogant attitude stems from an unconcious Labour attitude that the Lib Dems aren't really a proper party at all, just a bunch of Scocialists who have temporarily lost their way, and that really the Lib Dems are just subsidiary branch of the Labour party.
However the News Quiz comments were at their sharpest in observing how everyone loves an idealistic party which is never going to have any actual part in government, and hates any party which ever holds any power and has to make real, uncomfortable decisions.
