Ooh-er Mrs! Despite most of the cast being dead, one of Britain's most enduringly popular madcap cinematic comedies is back, bigger than ever. Cinemas across the country are turning away people in their thousands as the clamour to see Carry on Reshuffling grows louder every day.
In Carry on Reshuffling, we follow the antics of hapless Prime Minister Dave Blatheron (played by Kenneth Williams) as he struggles to keep his increasingly unpopular government on track for next year’s election. Diminutive Chancellor George Plodsbourne (Kenneth Connor) is not much help. He looks like he just left school last year and it was only Harrow anyway.
Dave decides needs to freshen things up by replacing the clueless clots with a bevy of busty beauties. First out is bumbling Education Secretary Michael Grope (Charles Hawtrey), who has annoyed all the NUTs in school by talking about a threat from the blob. ‘Wish your dad had worn on,’ is all Dave can say to that. Tut tut, sir - could do better. And in come the contestants for Miss Cabinet 2014, led by sultry Ester McLay (Valerie Leon) and Liz Trusty (Barbara Windsor). Phworr! That certainly makes a change from the frumpy, lovelorn Anne Widdledum (Hattie Jaques)
Foreign Secretary William Vague (Peter Butterworth) has to go too – he’s fallen in love with luscious film star Angelina Blow-me (Herself) and can barely keep his hands off her bulging red boxes. Meanwhile rough diamond Ken Spark (Sid James) has become a complete liability. He’s only gone and said we’d be mad to get out of a union with al those funny people abroad. Honestly, what a steaming great twit.
Poor Dave also has to work with his reluctant allies the Literal Demon Cats. Their cherubic leader Nick Begg (Jim Dale) seems happy enough to bend over and take the flak but gloomy Business Secretary Vince Grable (Bernard Bresslaw) never stops moaning about the state of the economy. As for who Chris Loon (Terry Scott) has had in his car, let’s not even get started.
As scheming opposition leader Ed Millipede (Frankie Howerd) sharpens his tittersome weapons in the Commons, can Dave wrong-foot him? Maybe he should invite smooth Latin lover Silvio (Leslie Phillips) or handsome young US president Barry Obladioblada (a guest appearance by Charlie Williams) over to please the ladies? Myairrss, it's laughs all the way from here to polling day with Carry on Reshuffling.
