Controversial artist Tracey Emin has announced plans to mass-produce one of her most famous artworks.
‘My Bed’, created in 1998, features stained sheets, cigarette packets, discarded condoms and soiled underwear and is thought to be worth between £800,000 and £1.2 million.
Art experts have called the artwork ‘seminal’ because of all the semen oozing from the used condoms scattered all over the bed.
Now, in a move labelled ‘Warholesque’, Ms Emin plans to mass-produce genuine authentic replicas of the piece to be placed in museums and sold to private collectors all over the World.
In conjunction with a leading mattress manufacturer, Tracey has acquired 300 similar beds and over the next two years plans to get drunk every night, eat a large curry or Chinese meal, shag a total stranger, piss the bed and shit her knickers. For added uniqueness, she might also vomit randomly here and there.
Tate supremo Sir Nicholas Serota congratulated her and said only a genius of her calibre could conceive of such a bold concept. Charles Saatchi said he would buy one for £5 million and personally sleep in it himself.
In Margate, where Tracey was brought up, the local newspaper was 100% behind the idea and thinks it could bring more tourists to the area.
If and when Tracey tires of this lifestyle, plans are in place to source soiled beds from old folks homes, featuring actual dead people, signed by her of course, for authenticity.
