A crowd has gathered outside Apple’s headquarters, in Cupertino, California, in the hope that the company will soon be launching an innovative new product. Most of the crowd is silent - as though in prayer - though some are waving home-made banners.
“We don’t know what it will be”, said Kent Schneider, currently on day-release from common sense. “I just hope it will fill the aching, existential void inside me. Something totally awesome and new, that we’ve never seen before”. Maria Hibbert, from Minnesota, lit a candle, and hoped the rumoured new product would monitor her health and well-being. “I want to be reassured that I’m still alive”, she said, “that I haven’t just been run over by a bus or just died in my sleep. I’d like it to ‘beep’."
Jake Arnott, 19, was less impressed. “I’m not spending my hard-earned dollars on some new gadget, without knowing if it’s any good. I’ll wait for version 2.0”...
