Speaking during a visit to Simferopol, Russian President for life Vladimir Putin has outlined The Russian Football Union’s (Российский Футбольный Союз)
military plan to increase the number of teams competing in the Russian football Premier-League (Российская футбольная Премьер-Лига). From the 2014/15 season, SC Tavriya Simferopol, from the recently annexed Ukrainian region of Crimea, will join the league. And, if new proposals come to fruition, further teams could also join before the next season begins in the autumn. Further professional teams are said to be interested in transferring to the Russian Premier-League, including FC Shakhtar Donetsk, FC Metalurh Donetsk, FC Zorya Luhansk, FC Metalist Kharkiv, FC Illichivets Mariupol, and FC Chornomorets Odesa. The comrade chairperson for FC Shakhtar Donetsk Democratic Revolutionary Supporters Trust, Oleg Maknoleg, has welcomed the offer from The Russian Football Union, saying “we are already planning for the many away fixtures and look forward to an average round trip of 4500km.” He also added that Siberia’s “FC Tom Tomsk’s half-time Pirog, is the said to be the best in the league.”
