Simon Branch, spokesperson for CAARE the ‘Campaign against anything in Rural England’, has criticised the government’s plans to cut back on spending saying it will almost certainly jeopardise their right to protest.
“These cut backs mean there will be no new Nuclear Power Stations built, so our children’s health will not be put at any risk whatsoever. Our view will not be blighted by huge great pylons, so the value of our property will not be affected. This could also mean there will be no need to build a new road, meaning we will no suffer from increased levels of pollution and noise. It’s just not good enough!”
“We spent all our savings to move to the country just so we could moan and whinge about everything. Now we are nearly broke, and nothing to complain about.”
His wife Beryl added, “We have invested what little money we had left in large marker pens, placards and banners. What are we going to do with them now? We could just complain about the noise of cockerels in the morning, or the smell from cattle, but that just makes us look stupid. The Government should have considered all the implications before making rash decisions like this.”
