Impressing the crowds in New Zealand yesterday, Prince William has spoken out about his fashion choices in a bid to divert attention from his wife.
The prince is said to favour handmade suits from Gieves & Hawkes of Savile Row. He wore his navy two-piece with a crisp baby blue cotton shirt and an old favourite – a jazzy purple and blue patterned tie. While not a fan of ostentatious jewellery, he did accessorise with a small poppy shaped brooch worn over his heart on his left lapel. He also carried a large black umbrella. His honey blonde hair was closely cropped – a sensible choice when walking about in windy atmospheres.
Speaking to Harvey Hamilton, 68, who admired his outfit, he commented that getting the right look is difficult. “It’s a tough one. The right colour choice is so important. Black is too sombre and grey makes my complexion look drab. And then, of course, there’s the age-old dilemma of what colour shoes to wear with a navy suit. I did a quick Google and decided on black leather, although I believe that burgundy could also work quite well”.
Topman, Burton and Asos are yet to report on whether sales of formal wear have increased.
