Whose Waylandsmithy? What's a Newsbiscuit? I'm sooo out of the loop on this whole thread.

I'm sooo out of the loop on this whole thread.
Great position to be in. ;0) I wish I was and that's my last incursion into the subject. I'm off to write some comedy in the other room - Hugs all round!!!
Sinnick, to refer back to your comment much further back, you say 'some' but who?
From my recollection, the 'Harold Gang' who still visit do nothing but encourage the few newcomers we get on here nowadays, normally by telling them to ignore the bitching and whining and to listen to the constructive comments.
It wasn't that long ago that Wrenfoe was a newbie, and I'm pretty sure that he was given the same advice as above, and look at how well he's doing.
I absolutely agree with what Perks says, time to let the whole 'let's blame those bastards at EH for setting up their own site'. It's tired, and sounds petulant.
BJ, I was behind a few of the Harold-centric pieces, and know I've let that slide lately, but between uni stuff and other real life things being a pain in the arse and stealing my mojo, I've really not had the time.
I fully intend to start that up again once exams and stuff are out of the way.
So if anyone finds my mojo, could you let me know?
I've seen Jeni B's mojo. But I've sworn not to put the photos up on facebook.
My mojo was very tired and emotional at the time NewsBiscuit, and didn't really know what it was doing.
In fact, it took off just after that occasion and hasn't been seen since.
If only Apple had a 'Find my iMojo' app.
Not particularly wanting to prolong this, but...
I don't recall anyone having a pop at the 'Harold Gang' for setting up their own site. What has got up some noses is the way that, having done so, some of them have returned, usually under alternative names (VCG is an exception obviously; as for the rest, you know who you are) and had a pop at those who remain here.
Having made the split because, as I understand it, they didn't agree with the editorial direction, they should IMHO stick to writing on their own site where they don't have to compete in the back office with all and sundry. It's a good site, there's room for both of us on the web and I can live with the fact that I won't ever get to write for it.
Will this madness never end?
This conflict not only reminds me of the worst excesses of the French Revolution, but also of the Guelphs and the Ghibellines and/or the Mantagues and Capulets.
Not wanting to prolong this further, but given that I was specifically mentioned as being an exception to the people with several aliases I should probably point out that I have five (that I can remember, I am 112 you know) different user names.
EH is still really good Jeni. I just thought it was getting less Framley Examiner and more Newsbiscuit. (I loved the Framley Examiner - especially their estate agents adverts). I take it that the veggie café is yours?
Anyway, I still see a bit of Wayland (unmasked) on Facebook and on Twitter which goes to show that we can all still be friends - even if it is just imaginary friends.

BTW I've always enjoyed EH and I particularly like their different slant on news stories. While the Daily Mash always has excellent headlines to its stories, the quality of the stories always seems better on NB & EH imo. Whereas the Daily Thump relies solely on bored NB & EH writers dropping it the odd story now & again.
Oxy, why shouldn't we be on both NB and EH?!
Some of us have written stories for both since the creation of EH (admittedly I haven't written much for anywhere lately. See above.) and I really don't see why we can't continue to do so.
There's certain stories that are more suited to here than to EH and it would be a shame if those couldn't be subbed here. Perhaps the reason some have additional logins is so that they can sub here without this sort of lengthy discussion enveloping their every submission.
For the record, I have no other login.
BJ - Yes, that was me. I have very little talent for proper news satire, but can normally channel some of the ghastly mums at my son's school and come up with the sort of rubbish necessary for that kind of thing. We have to keep reminding ourselves to write villagey stories, but they're my favourite.
Enough angst, I think. Not a fan of multiple log-ins as I don't think it's necessary to vary a writing style..we're hardly brand names after all.
As for contributors, all welcome, one and all, whatever else you do and wherever else you stick it, I think. As for tone, I think Waylandsmithy was very out of order with an unpleasant remark on his exit request and as I said then, hope that doesn't reflect any personal circumstances or upset. He was always better than that- and the fact it was unexpectedly out of character probably contributed to the impact. And as for general tone and whinge ing...flounces will always happen in an artistic forum...but generally seem to blow up like a storm and settle down swiftly with a general overtone of sensibility amongst contributors and the paternalistic Dumbledorian wisdom of Our Leader.
How about everyone shakes hands and has another beer? Beau Jolly's round, I think...stay away from his own label stuff.
"This conflict not only reminds me of the worst excesses of the French Revolution, but also of the Guelphs and the Ghibellines and/or the Mantagues and Capulets."
Oi, you - come outside and say that.
... bloody intellectuals.
... comin' over 'ere, ponderin' our Eternal Verities ...
Excuse me, if I may I would like to bring this discussion to a close for the foreseeable future.
This is a subject on which many don't agree, and never will. The conclusion (or non-conclusion) of such chat threads usually involves personal insults and tears (mine) so this is for everyone. I like each and every one of you. Not just because it's in my contract and the brand of teabags I'm allowed to claim on expenses depends on it, but because I've seen all of you at at least one point being helpful, supportive and constructive even if it's just the tiniest hint which you've desperately tried to hide. The internet often exacerbates frustrations (I've tried turning it off and on again, but alas) and when the topics of the Evening Harold/ site standards come up, it all gets a bit pre-menstrual/ new moon-y.
All I'm asking is that everyone thinks about the reason this site was set up -to encourage comedy writers- and takes an active role in contributing to making it great. That doesn't mean going round being overly polite to everyone, what a ludicrous notion, that's my job. It does mean encouraging subs, commenting with potential improvements, and if someone posts something which you think is rubbish telling them why and helping them reignite the spark of their idea if there is one! The repetition of arguments just creates an air of bad feeling and a chorus of gritted teeth.
I hope you don't take offence and think that I'm trying to patronise you all into being nice. If you want the truth I'm not writing this for the good of NewsBiscuit, I just can't hear Corrie over this racket and it's all about to kick off with Tina and Peter.
While I think about it, should anyone wish to contact me privately in the future, I've placed a sticky in the chatroom (the green ones at the top which everyone ignores) with my email address. This is checked every time all five of my Candy Crush lives run out. Now, did I hear someone say that it's Beau-Jolly's round? Pint-sized Jaegerbomb please, BJ.
"Oxy, why shouldn't we be on both NB and EH?!"
Well, EH is a closed shop, so that's arguably a bit of a case of having your cake and eating it, and I thought the aim was to do something different and better, so why not just get on with it? Otherwise no reason. Just not under multiple identities, which several Haroldites clearly do.
