In a bizarre twist of fate, the Met Office has found Britain basking in near warm, almost sunny conditions, just as it forecast a few days ago. 'The computer had to go back to Amstrad to have the memory chips upgraded to 4 megabytes,' explained the senior Met Officer on duty, 'so we had to go back to basics.' He explained that in the absence of a high powered Amstrad 1512 they had to pull out the maps, crayons, seaweed, everything. 'Eventually we all went down the pub and played a drinking game where we had to take a mouthful of ale, make up the first line of the forecast and pass it on. The next guy had to take a swig, repeat what had been said before and add a line. As you can imagine, the forecast got increasingly unlikely as we got drunker, and that's the one that went out. It's just sod's law that it turned out to be correct,' he added.
Amstrad refused to comment except to say that the computer has now been upgraded and ready to screw up the summer.
