Comedy fans were besides themselves today on the news that Groanne Lumpen will get back together with Jennifer Meanders for a last film version of their TV series Absolutely Fatuous, featuring a screamingly funny characterisation of a tired old lush. ‘We know its popularity derives from the fact everyone can do such portrayals better than us’ said Groanne. But the need for more female comediennes on the BBC has sent executives digging deep into the barrel for laughs.
Lumpen’s co-star, is keen to point out that there will be few surprises, the two of them relying on doing what they know best, overacting on the basis of piss poor material. BBC executives are reported to be delighted at the savings in gag writers. ‘We are not joking’, said Chris Patten literally and went on to express that he remains puzzled as to why these two has-beens never get invited on to all male comedy panel shows. 'Surely, there is room on Just a minute for someone who will stop Paul Merton talking. We will use anyone.'
'just had to get this off my chest' said the reporter.
