David Miliband has made his first major attempt to break free from his brother and broaden his appeal to the voting public by unveiling his new secret weapon, a large St Bernard dog called Schnorbitz.
The former Foreign Secretary, who is favourite to win the contest to become Labour’s next leader, went further than ever before in distancing himself from his brother Ed Miliband who is believed to have told him that "the dog is really not a good idea".
In an attempt to win support from the left of the Labour party and face up to the vast shortcomings of New Labour, Mr Miliband's political advisor, Tarquil Winters, succeeded in acquiring Schnorbitz for him saying that he could not lose as the public loves adorable, drooling dogs, "Just look at Theresa May" he quipped.
Mr Miliband claims that Schnorbitz can only be good for Britain.
"Cameron has Clegg and I have Schnorbitz" he said and added that without Lucy, David Blunkett's career would never have taken off.
Other candidates for the Labour leadership have jointly criticized Miliband's actions as "attention seeking and purile".
In the House of Commons yesterday he was publicly criticized by Ed Balls and Emu, and Dianne Abbott and Lambchops.
