It is understood that Nicolas Mahut, who featured in Wimbledon’s record breaking second round tie was is to become the new face of Viagra, the erectile dysfunction drug.
Although the information leaked out prematurely, before the big launch planned for the climax of the tournament, the news was confirmed at a press conference hurriedly arranged by pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.
‘Nicolas has demonstrated all the qualities we like to associate with our product,’ said spokesman Max Smallwood. ‘Staying power, firm resolve and plenty of balls.’
When asked why Mahut had been selected rather than John Isner, the eventual winner of the marathon tie, Mr Smallwood said ‘in the interests of our new advertising campaign, we chose the man who came second.’
