Tony Blair and New Labour are every bit as guilty as the Tories for the way this country is heading down a very slippery slope.
I think you may have mistaken me for a Labour supporter when in fact I hate liars, cheats and con-men from whatever colour they represent.
Somerset homes and business have been flooded for over 5 months - not a single promise or pledge, not a single visit from Westminster, budgets slashed and flood victims left to get on with it.
Thames Valley houses were flooded and within hours the Army are called in and 'money is no object'
Yes or No ??
Bit of a basic political question

I tell it like it is.
Well yes but...the Somerset levels are agricultural and have been flooding for centuries. Dutch engineers recovered the below-sea-level land initially. Although the flooding is extensive, relitively few houses are threatened. The lack of investment in, for example, dredging takes this into account. High cost/benefit ratio. I think Chris Smith said they had to show an £8 benefit for every £1 spent. A few farms and a couple of little villages? Fuck 'em! Bit harsh?
The Thames Valley on the other hand is a densly populated urban area where the damage/cost will be 1000 times worse; not just to wealthy tossers who wanted a river view but to all the other poor sods who have to live in unlovely places like dirty Staines.
It seems to me that the incompetence of the current Government is only exceeded by that of the opposition. Which, spookily enough, is exactly how I felt about the previous Government, and the one before that.
Anyway, isn't all this flooding due to climate change?
(Dons tin hat)
It is now!
A cynic might argue that's a 1000 times more votes that need saving too.
To be fair I do have a massive problem with wealthy people and the way they self-indulge.
I firmly believe helping a poor kid through university would be a better way to spend money than on another Porsche.
And I'm sure hydrologists, meteorologists, engineers and scientists know more about what's happening to the world than history graduates or finance lawyers.
Their opinion is worthless.
Eric Pickles might know how to navigate his way around a bowl of soup but what the fuck does he know about flood water?
Why send him?
But yes....what Midfield said.
That's Staines on Thames if you don't mind.
I certainly agree with the old adage that a government is only as good as the opposition which holds it to account.
Those who resent the duration and influence of the successive Thatcher governments often seem to forget the nature of the opposition they faced.
