The MacArthur Fellows Program was forced into an embarrassing about-turn yesterday when it awarded a “Genius grant” to Nick Griffin, Chairman of the British National Party (BNP), in error. “Genius grants“ are awarded to those individuals who “show exceptional merit and promise for continued and enhanced creative work."
The MacArthur Program released the following statement:
“Whilst we regard Mr Griffin as a sterling English Rights Leader, we must acknowledge that we made a blunder in awarding him our grant. The intended recipient was in fact Nigel Farage, who has shown great courage and leadership this past year in his role as Society Preservationist.”
Previous mistaken winners include Mel Gibson, Monica Lewinsky and Pauline Fowler.
