A brown bear escaped unscathed after fighting off an elderly Scottish couple it encountered while out scavenging for food.
The bear was going through bins at the back of the couple’s villa in Pasedena when it was set upon by 72 year old Bob McKeown in a dispute over a discarded chicken wing.
Video footage showed the bear tipping over bins and crawling inside, completely unaware he was being watched by the couple.
The retired gardener from Glasgow claimed the chicken wing belonged to him but the bear says the deep-fried delicacy had been in the bin for over a week and was there before Bob and Irene had even arrived at the villa.
Police say wildlife officials armed with guns had been tracking the elderly couple for days after reports a ‘fat, grizzly creature with reddish hair’ had been spotted scavenging in the neighbourhood.
‘Thanks to the prompt action of the bear nobody was seriously injured’ said Brady Schmultz from the LAPD ‘the couple have been tranquillised and will be taken up into the mountains were they will be set free to enjoy the rest of their holiday. It must have been quite a shock for the bear to come across a Scottish couple on the patio like that...but it should feel safe now they have been removed.
We think the bear may have seen a documentary on TV about Scottish people and so knew what to do when confronted by the couple.
But let this be a reminder to all grizzly bears out there scavenging for food, that - although it is very rare to find an elderly Scottish couple holidaying in a hot climate – this just goes to show it can happen and they need to be aware at all times.

Good story, Geri. I'd prefer the "fat grizzly creature with reddish hair" joke to be the punchline, perhaps.
yes, that line made me laugh as well ... should be the punchline ..
Could add something about experts warning the bear that the Scottish diet could be detrimental to its health.
Like it. Agree with the others that the end needs a little wipe and freshen.
Something like: But let this be a reminder to all hungry grizzly bears out there, that while it is very rare to find an elderly Scottish couple holidaying in a hot climate, do NOT approach these fierce creatures nor attempt to eat their food.
It's always a pleasure to read about Salty's holiday adventures.
