Ariel Smythe, once leader of Ventnor Borough Council, has made a dramatic recovery from an eight year combover. Isle of Wight reporters, agog for news of the controversial hairstyle, heard that Mr Smythe emerged unscathed from the combover late on Saturday night, after hairdressers fought valiantly to restore tonsorial credibility with a total head shave.
Smythe succumbed to the combover in 2006, after his team of barbers announced most of his cranial hair was “unsaveable”. There followed attempts to transplant hair settlements from undisclosed parts of his body into unpopulated regions, despite the UN’s declaration these were illegal. Derision from all sides of the Ventnor Council threatened to end his career in local politics, and a photo opportunity with Terry Wogan left him without a majority.
