The SNP have reacted angrily to reports in the media that Father Christmas may not automatically deliver presents to children in a newly-independent Scotland.
"We've looked into this and we have received assurances that all the details can be resolved through negotiation before independence," a clearly flustered Salmond told reporters this morning.
But some observers are less optimistic. The Guardian reports that it is unlikely that Santa will be able to ratify any deal with a newly-independent Scotland until the outcome of the landmark rulings by the European Central Court into Santa's alleged Health and Safety violations.
The Daily Mail, which last week warned that floods of immigrant children from Romania may mean that British kids may have to wait up to three days to get their Christmas presents from 2014, agrees that the pressure on Santa has never been higher and it would therefore seem impossible that a deal could be ironed out within the foreseeable future.
