In what is seen as a pioneering move, New Line Cinema, producers of the Lord of The Rings (LOTR)series of movies have released a special DVD Box Set that provides an index of all the other LOTR materials available.
New Line Cinema Marketing Director, Darrell Connor, said, "In the face of an ever increasing deluge of LOTR media, fans are struggling to compile the ultimate LOTR experience and we share in their frustration. For example, some feel their collection is complete if they have the LOTR extended trilogy in Blu-ray format but that has been superseded by another box set that incorporates new material, including fan boy homages to the original movies. It is no longer possible to be definitive about the order of the LOTR universe".
Super fan, Ryan Jenkins agreed there was an urgent need to address the problem, "I have the original DVDs when they were available, the same DVDs as a box set and then the separate DVDs in Blu-ray format as well as the latest Blu-ray box set. I also have every version of DVDs issued with a plastic figure which is 34 DVDs alone. I have the cinema release editions, the director's cut editions and the ones with that short movie by Sean Austin. I have the WETA workshop special DVDs, the New Zealand Tourist Board special editions, the 2005-7 Thanksgiving Special Editions and the Andy Serkiss 'How to be Gollum' DVDs. I thought I had the lot, properly arranged in chronological order, but I can't be sure now. A DVD Box Set Index would be perfect as it would catalogue every LOTR product and when it was issued.
Mr Connor could not confirm if this was the final LOTR box set. "I guess we will have to see what happens, but with the Hobbit trilogy unfinished, I can't see we are ever going to be ahead."
