I’m just listening to somebody waffling, on the radio, about the 50th anniversary of Dr Who. Now, I’m an old geezer, and I remember when Dr Who started on TV. I took one look at an early episode, thought it was piffle and never tuned in again. It wasn’t scary, and those Daleks were laughable. Cyborgs intent on universal domination... that could be thwarted by a staircase? The 13-year-old me thought “rubbish”. The 63-year-old me feels much the same, even while everyone else is celebrating ‘fifty glorious years’.
It’s not that I dislike Dr Who, it’s that I just don’t care.
So which universally-loved cultural icon leaves you baffled?
