Zsa Zsa Gabor's famously disastrous appearance on Just a Minute will be broadcast for the first time on Radio 4 Extra, over forty years after it was recorded. The Hungarian Temptress, in the UK to promote her seventh marriage in 1969, simply couldn't understand why the very mention of her name stopped the show and made Kenneth Williams fly into a rage. She also had to have Derek Nimmo explained in full.
"Perhaps we did go over the top by having The Tzar of all the Russias as one subject, recalls host Nicholas Parsons. "I decided to give it to Zsa Zsa, which was a bit naughty, and have regretted it ever since. By the end of the show, Peter Jones's buzzer-finger was numb with effort and poor Zsa Zsa was exhausted and in tears."
Listeners will be able to hear the show as part of the publicity campaign behind Ms Gabor's new autobiography. The book also recalls her doomed relationship with sci fi star Jar Jar Binks, and the ruined life of their love child, named after both parents.
