It's hard to be sure when all you have is a username, but I'm pretty sure just about everyone who writes here is male (I am). In the eight months I've been on the site, the only women here that I know of were Mary Evans and Lindy Moone. Why is it overwhelmingly men who take a crack at comedy writing?

Is everyone else here male too?

You may like to rephrase your question syd?

I assume their wives and girlfriends are doing something constructive with their lives instead.
((Actually Mrs Wrenfoe does write the odd funny but prefers a more rambling blog format))

Squudge is a girlie.

Only when it suits me, chuckles.

Jeni B is a girlie as well.
I always assumed it was because women have better things to do than write comedy on a website for no money.
That said, Mary Evans can write some fantastic stuff, but then she's a writer and knows her craft pretty well.

We definitely need more women on this site, a place this size doesn't clean its self. Tin hat going on now, leg it.

For fuck's sake, was the catsuit not enough of a clue?
The reason that there's not too many ladies around here now, is that it all got a bit too 'locker-room' for many of them. Back in the day, there used to be quite a few of us.

Obviously not, I thought the name Jeni was a bit of a giveaway.

Locker room?

typical male assertion, gladys
tsk

Isn't the site better-mannered these days?

The clue is in the name...

You are a real lifeboat?

At the risk of incurring a visit to the vet to be 'fixed' - I honestly thought Mary Evans was JoF (hence not a lady, if a jolly good writer)

I'm a woman. I know I might not look like it from my gravatar, but don't let the massive cock fool you.

you called?

Just a guess but one of my favourites is Long Distance Clara who might be a girlie. Not that it matters whether I'm right or wrong. But I thought someone whose username was a girl's name spelt backwards could be female too.
Dodgy ground though sydalg; the implication that good comedy writing is dependent upon which set of genitalia you happen to possess is dangerously close.

Tripod, only on the surface.
At the risk of sounding old, back in the day, this was truly the most welcoming, friendly site. Then the trolls crept in.
Most of them have retreated under their bridge again, but there's still some here.
In fact, it's partly because of the trolls that some of the best writers of recent years went, and left the trolls to fight among themselves in a cannibalistic orgy.

Read a few of my "View from the mound" news blogs, and you'll be in no doubt about my gender.

No Grumpy, Mary Evans is a real person, unlike JoF who is a pastiche

Oh, so only women can wear catsuits now is it? Racist.

Oh gawd... I just had a vision of Eric Pickles in a catsuit...

Female. If it's important.

There you go then Sydalg. Loads of ladies. Perhaps you could ask how many of them are single? Just out of curiosity like.

Not sure how PC that is. Sugartits may also prove to be an exception.Posted 7 years ago # -
I have often noted that new, obviously female writers get the same couple of people swarming and being creepy. It turns into a file from operation Yewtree.
I don't think it matters, does it.
Maybe you need to examine your own world view, sydalg. You ask a question, presume the answer, then ask a blatently incorrect question. What you have written says that you presume that funny people must be men. There was not much that would say if a user was male or female, but you thought that we must all be men.
Would it help if all men can have whatever username they want and all the ladies should be called Jane and Sarah. Maybe that will help

Well now I'm confused as to whether I'm supposed to be a girl, funny, John O'Farrell or offended...

I think he'd be better off with a "specialist" website for that kind of caper.
Posted 7 years ago # -
Single? Ok. I can confirm there is only one of me.

Seriously, was it the troll(s) that drove the schism?
