Keen to build on the runaway success of the Big Society initiative, David Cameron let slip today that the government is to launch the “Captain Obvious” website, full of handy tips which nobody else has thought of.
Mr Cameron gave a taster of the website this week advising people to “wrap up warm” or “wear a jumper” to save money on heating bills this winter. He also urged people to consider switching suppliers in an attempt to find better deals on energy.
Geoff Thomas of Age UK was critical of the website. “Well, on the face of it, it looks like a vaguely good idea, but many older people don’t have internet access so can’t easily shop around for good energy deals, let alone use the site to find Captain Obvious’s common sense suggestions. Although I have a feeling that most people got there first.”
The website also aims to be a “one stop shop” for modern dilemmas. Jeremy Hunt will write a weekly blog on basic morality and Eric Pickles is said to be offering recipes for cooking on a budget. Mr Pickles stated today that, “A Pickles portion equals four normal sized portions, which is ideal for a family”.
