The Department of Education today released figures for the tests for 5 and 6 year olds showing an improvement over last year and the year before.
Ministers praised the improvement in toddlers "There has been an increase in the test results for something we didn't test in the past. These results show that the thing is good and that we were right to test for it."
The results drew criticism from some teachers' leaders in making 5 and 6 year olds take national tests. On the positive side, one teacher commented "This proves conclusively that when teachers are asked to teach a thing, they can do it."
Speaking on a radio program discussing the results "Phonics: Phony phonic phone-in", one successful candidate said "I feel grate beak oz I past the test butt sum of my frends are upset."
