A senior Daily Mail executive has confirmed the reason for the recent attack by the paper on the Labour Leader's father was "because Ralph Milliband wanted to kill a man called Adolf Hitler, a close friend of the paper's proprietor."
"It is a matter of historical record that this Milliband man wanted to kill this very close friend of our current proprietor's great grandfather," a Mail executive told Newsnight. "Viscount Rothermere and Mr Hitler had a warm and close friendship in the run up to the Second World War, and this Ralph Milliband, an itinerant Belgian of all things, immediately took it upon himself to end that friendship with violent physical attacks on Mr Hitler. He did not act alone but joined a bunch of marine vigilantes to carry out these attacks. What his motives were, who knows? Now, this man's son, also called Milliband, wants to behave in a similar fashion. He has inherited his father's murderous views, and is attacking the current LOrd Rothermere in similar fashion. The staff of the Mail is unanimous in its opposition to this vile and cowardly attack on our family by the murderous Milliband family, all of who are murderous marxist murderers. The entire paper opposes him, apart, possibly, from from Melanie Philips."
