Commander Dereck Smith of the Northumberland Police Force has called for drugs. Smith denied calling for the decriminalisation of hard drugs.
"The media has totally got the wrong end of the stick on this one," he told BBC North. "The war against hard drugs creates employment for hundreds of hard working coppers like myself. Why would I say I want to cut that supply of employment? No, it's just the drugs I'm calling for. Just a couple of grams of coke and whatever smack you can lay your hands on, and get back to me about crack" he told suppliers. I'm having a bit of a party this weekend and I am inviting all sorts. I'll send one of them undercover coppers to call for em. I'm not calling for em in person, obviously. Don't worry he doesn't look like an undercover copper. Not even to his wife!"
