C4 Commissioning Editor Martin Roberts expressed surprise today at the number of complaints about a special WW2 themed edition of the popular show. "This was not a history show but an entertainment programme. Given that, I do not accept that there were too many references by Hitler to 'cooking with gas', or that Stalin provided three courses of exactly the same recipe using just two ingredients - potatoes and cabbage. Remember, we were trying to imagine what it would have been like during a war, when there wasn't much food around. I do accept, however, that we should not have had Mussolini asking Hitler how many 'meatballs' he wanted."
Come Dine With Me fan, Richard Hughes, was one of the complainants. "The show was crass, insensitive and in extremely poor taste", he said, adding, "if it wasn't for the fact that Churchill won with his overdone Victory Pie and American Fries combo, I would have switched off long before the end."
The Commissioning Editor also confirmed that the 1000 ration coupons won by Churchill would be donated to Isle of Wight 'Dig For Victory' Group which was still doing great work for the war effort.
