Police have revealed that the gang who took over a Barclays Bank computer to make millions of pounds actually work for Barclays.
DI Ron Barnaby of the Met Police Fraud Squad, who headed the investigation, said: 'When we looked into the case, we found that the gang who were apparently robbing Barclays customers of millions of pounds were masquerading as the staff, and that this is what they do every day.
'The gang also has members in every other bank, and the way they work is always the same. They have big flashy adverts on the telly making their bank look as friendly and exciting as Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Then when they have lured customers into giving them all their money, allegedly for safe keeping, they then take most of it in charges, interest, fees and commission.
'It's a brilliant scam, and as far as we can tell it's perfectly legal. Our advice to members of the public is to put your money into the Barnaby Bank, where it will be perfectly safe.'
