Following today’s outbreak of equality, the Church of Wales is seeking a new, more inclusive, term to replace the old-fashioned “bishopric”.
Rev Olwyn Thomas of Carmarthen, who led the cheers following today’s vote in favour of ordaining female bishops, commented that a name change would mark today’s decision positively. A consultation committee will meet early next week to consider alternatives. A Facebook page has been set up to gather ideas.
Worries that the parishes around St David’s, Cwmamman, Glanaman and Ammanford would also be subject to name changes were allayed by Rev Thomas. “No,” she said, “that would be silly”.
