Special events took place across the globe today to commemorate the extraordinary human suffering and lost that occurred 12 years ago in New York City. The attacks on the World Trade Centre, the beacon of American economic strength, shook the world and informed Western foreign policy ever since. Facebook user Danny Rhodes put it best when he wrote, ‘a lot of other bad things happened as well you know.’
Danny, and other social media users, flocked to the internet to inform those choosing to remember the close to 3000 dead with dignity just how wrong they are. ‘Look, nobody is saying that 9/11 wasn’t bad or anything but we have a moral obligation to point out everything else in the world. Like Africa, how many people die in that country every day for AIDs? Does that get a day? Is there a World’s Aids Day? Being held on December 1st this year? Somehow, I doubt it,’ argued Danny.
‘And it is absolutely vital that we do on 9/11 and not on any of the other 364 days of the year. ‘
