Greg Dyke chairman of the English FA admitted would have liked to set the more ambitious goal of England winning the 2018 World Cup. After discussions with legal experts, however, he was advised that his name contravenes Russia’s laws against the promotion of comfortable shoes from women. A combination of his name and daring to win something on Russian soil, he was told, would at the very least end in some form of radiation sickness. As a result Dyke said, he set his sights on winning the trophy in the far more civilised and tolerant absolute monarch of Qatar.
