"Parliament has freely and democratically chosen to vote the wrong way over our possible armed intervention in syria" said the Prime Minister. "Of course we will respect this decision. I believe that UK forces should only be committed with the prior approval of Paliament."

"In accordance with our profound respect for democracy we will therefore shortly call another Commons vote in the expectation that members will realise why it is essential for them to support my plans to launch attacks against Syria. Indeed, I am so fond of democracy that I will, if necessary, call for repeated votes over this until we get the result we want."
