Woman's Hour, Radio 4’s flagship programme for persons of either cake have launched a season of gender-neutral recipes, aimed at the feminist stay-at-home home maker of either sex.
“All too often we’ll finish an item about pre-menstrual tension, post natal depression or mid-life eyeliner, all aimed at either sexual gender or orientation,” said Woman’s Hour leader Hilary Jameson. “And we’ll follow with a rhubarb crumble, or a light as a feather low fat summer fruit syllabub, guaranteed to please the person of either gender in your life after he comes home from a hard day at work.”
Ms Jameson conceded: "This sends out a mixed message, as did our recent feature on the all female Palestinian Honeydew farm. We admit we should never have called it “Girls with Huge Melons”, though for some reason we had a massive spike on the iplayer as a result.”
Meanwhile, Radio 4 Chief Tea Cosy Martha Cousins has announced an initiative to increase the station’s levels of self-satisfaction. “We mustn’t get too smug about how pleased we are with ourselves, but we hope to increase our levels of complacency by ten per cent over the next six months, thanks to an expected rise in the number of round the world yachtswomen who make their own cupcakes.”
