A news item has beggared belief among 90 per cent of the population, if a sample of participants in a radio phone in show is typical.
In a discussion on cycle lanes, caller after caller phoned in to say that the behaviour of all people on pushbikes "beggars belief". When discussion widened, to shine the spotlight on whether cyclists observe traffic laws, the degree of belief beggaring reached alarming levels. A staggering 100 per cent of callers reported that their entire world-view and expectations had been confounded. One caller, a 'Golgo from Kingston', put it in stronger terms, when he told the radio show. "It absolutely, absolutely beggars belief. It really does. I don't normally call your show, but I'm so angry Robbie."
