Crossrail developers admitted last night that they may inadvertently have build the line on an east-west alignment instead of the intended north-south because they had 'lost a compass'. Speaking late last night, a spokesman said 'We knew the plan was to let people get back south of the river safely after midnight, thereby encouraging more use of the marvellous facilities of the West End and Hampstead. But one of our foremen lost the compass, and we now have a terrific route for people in Berkshire desperate to visit Wapping. It may have something to commend it."
