Following a spate of celebrity incarcerations, ITV have announced today that the location of its popular reality TV show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! will be shifted from the tropics of Australia to the cramped halls and cells of London's notorious Category A Belmarsh Prison, now crammed with household names, in a 'stars behind bars' special.
'The premise of the show will remain exactly the same', insisted the show's director, Chris Power. 'We may not have the beautiful jungle backdrop with waterfalls, but we do have a spacious exercise yard with prison showers. Plus it's more believable - I mean, the viewers won't be in any doubt that the celebs actually do want to get the hell out of there. If the celebrities can't come to us, we'll just go to them'.
Popular duo Ant and Dec, who will be escorted around the prison complex under armed guard during the filming of the four week process, have let slip a few sneak details about what will be in-store for the convicted celebs. 'We can't say too much at the moment', said host Dec, 'but we can say that the task of collecting stars for prizes will remain a key part of the show, only the stars will be replaced with Visiting Orders for the celebs' friends and families, with the ultimate prize being 30-minute access to some online porn and an earlier parole hearing'.
Dec added, 'Other tasks will include 'hiding the shank from the prison warden', 'Identifying the alien object in the porridge', and a task we think will prove very popular with viewers - 'picking up the soap without interference'.
When pressed about the cast for this year's show, producer Chris Brogden said: 'Of course we can't give any of that away - but I suppose anybody who reads the newspapers will have a fair idea. If any of our famous inmates decide not to take part in the show, we have a wide array of desperate Z-listers, mainly from last year's Big Brother, who have willingly agreed to commit unspeakable crimes for a chance to appear on the show'.
