Unconverted lofts in North London were consigned to history today when Enfield homeowner Frank Shuter unveiled his new extended study and sleep over space.
Mr Shuter said: “It’s sad seeing a bit of history disappear. In the 20 years I’ve been here I’ve seen everybody else get their loft converted but I never thought I would be the last. To be honest I quite liked just chucking Christmas decorations and old junk up through the hatch to gather dust and be forgotten about.
But over the years, I’ve felt more and more isolated from my neighbours as they’ve converted and extended every last bit of space. It’s sad, but a healthy amount of plasterboard, stud partition wall and a velux window are my only way of re-joining mainstream society. Here, look at the action on that drop down ladder, good isn’t it?”
