"Not only is punishment a cruel and unnnatural infringement of offenders' human rights" said justice Carmel LeFarge of the European Court of Justice "But calling them 'offenders' is, in itself, degrading and this barbaric practice must be brought to an end if we are ever to call Europe a civilised place."
"In fact" she continued "what right do any human beings have, ever to require another human being to appear in front of any kind of court or trial? If civilisation means anything, it is that we must recognise that we are all equal and that none of us has the right to criticise others whose activities we might arbitrarily define as 'criminal' but which the other person may regard as merely 'receational' or 'she was asking for it'."
