The team at Channel 5's popular Cowboy Traders show have claimed they are 'close to a breakthrough' in their hunt for good guy turned rogue trader, Bob the Builder.
Bob, who was famous for his positive and focused approach to his building work, turned rogue last year after several recession-hit firms were unable to pay outstanding invoices to Bob's construction firm, Yes We Can Ltd.
Mike and Gillian Hurst, who last year fell victim to Bob's shoddy workmanship after a garage conversion was deserted with exposed wiring and dangerously unfinished foundation work, are hopeful that consumer hero Dominic Littlewood will snag the crooked tradesman. 'He seemed like a real pro at first - no matter what we asked him and his team to do, he just said 'yes we can'. We were very impressed. But once our first cheque cleared, he bolted and we never saw him again'', said Mike.
Dominic Littlewood, who said he was 'touched' by the story, has been tracking the builder ever since. 'He keeps changing his name, but that won't throw me off the scent, it just makes me angrier', said Dominic. 'He's been trading under many different aliases, including 'Chris the contractor' and 'Brian the Bricky' to name but a few. What ever he calls himself these days, he should know that I'm close to a breakthrough'.
In a show aired back in March, Littlewood came agonisingly close to nabbing his target, when a Channel 5 reporter desguised as a customer managed to get a face-to-face quote for a fake job, but was rumbled when Bob spotted Dominic's famous black Mitsubishi parked just a few feet away, and presented the undercover customer with a false business card with 'Call me on 0121- DO ONE' written on the back before making his escape.
Dizzy, a reliable road roller who used to work closely with Bob before his wages suddenly stopped, said: 'He used to have so much pride in his work. We were a team - no job was considered too small. Then he just became greedy and started cutting corners. He became a shadow of his former self - I didn't even recognise him in the end'.
Dominic has asked the public to remain cautious, but advised against any vigilante acts, claiming Bob has access to heavy tools and is not scared to use them. Littlewood also advised, 'if a tradesman tells you he can do literally anything, just like Bob, then 99.9% of the time, it's a load of crap'
